15 ez pace.  Last 2 faster.  10:30, 141bpm ave.  Trails behind house....

The conditions for this run were much better than last week.  It wasn't snowing and the wind only howled in a few areas.  It was warm enough for shorts.  The trail is still a mess with lots of mud, icy water, and wet snow.  I only fell down completely, twice but lots of slipping and sliding.  For mile 16 I followed some runner down the trail to the road in City Creek.  The last 1/3 or so was pavement, and my average pace for that mile was 6:37 @ 162bpm - fast for me.  Finished out the run on downhill pavement at 6:52 pace.  My over all average pace wasn't too bad, though I didn't tackle the monsterous parts of the course.

You're turning into quite a mountain goat on top of all the other "hobbies" you have. AWESOME trail run! Apparently you didn't hurt anything when you fell down completely twice by the look of those last FAST miles. When are you tapering for the BST marathon?

Nice pace. Tough conditions. You need to have Marcie crew for you this year at Wasatch Front 100..you're ready to tackle some serious terrain and distance.

I guess falling in mud and snow makes for an easier landing.

This is taper. I ran 17 miles. Last week it was 20. This run was more than an hour shorter because the terrain and conditions were easier.

So do you live right at the base of some mountains or something. How cool is that that you have trails right behind your house!!! I have a wash behind my house, but no way I could run in it.

So are you doing the Wasatch 100 or is Marc just kidding with you? That would be one killer race!!!

From MarcE on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 22:08:14 from 206.225.68.108

Fly, if you were to run the Wasatch 100, I'd fly out there and run with you for a while...seriously! (I'd love to do a 50 or 100 miler someday)

You are AWESOME Fly!! It was so good seeing you and your beautiful family. Your wife and kids are gorgeous!!

Btw, Ryan (my hubby) is trying to convince me to get into trail running once I have recovered. What do you think?

From fly on the wall on Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 15:29:54 from 166.70.192.189

Y'all, I've no plans to run any ultras at this point. 26.2ish is far enough!

Rhett, Have you ever been to Salt Lake? I live on the hill next to the capitol.... (That's just north of the Salt Lake LDS Temple it you are more familiar with that) So it is just a few blocks and I'm on mountain trail, or the road in City Creek canyon which is only open to maintenance vehicles and a few others. For us it is a great place to live. Of course we don't have a garage or driveway and have to park on the street. Here is a pic of our house- http://www.utahheritagefoundation.com/preservation-resources/book

Teena, Nice to see you as well. If I'd known you, and everyone else, had to bolt before, during, and right after the ceremony, I would have done a better job at introductions and visiting- sorry if I was rude. I don't know about trail running after your recovery but if you decide to, I'd be happy to have you and/or other forumites join me on the trails around here.

You were definitely not rude Fly!!

I hated having to leave early but I had class that night (and was already going to be an hour late).

Maybe my hubby and I will take you up on the tour of your trails one of these days. (Do you need special trail shoes or do you just wear your regular running shoes?)

From Rhett on Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 22:56:16 from 216.67.216.116

Fly, that is a way cool home. Is that a book that your house is on the front cover of?

From fly on the wall on Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 23:20:35 from 166.70.192.189

Teena, I don't wear trail shoes but I do have rigid orthotics which protect the bottom of my feet from sharp rocks and there are rocks.... Just let me know when. We can see if Mark, Andy, or anyone else wants to join us as well.

Rhett, Thanks. Yes. It was quite a surprise when we first came across that book.
