I ran from a trail head in the upper Aves to the summit of Little Black Mountain.  This is part of the course for Saturday's race.  I had planned to run the course through to City Creek canyon but there was enough snow on the ridge at Smugglers Gap that I turned around.  The drop into the canyon is steep and the trail would have been buried.  I was running out of time, didn't have any gear, and was solo.  The snow will continue to melt but I can't imagine the decent into City Creek will be melted out in a week.  On Saturday (day after I was up there) the race director tried to hike in supplies to the Smuggler's Gap aid station but was denied by the deep snow.  This could be an interesting race.

I forgot that Wahsatch Steeplechase is this weekend!!!

Man, if the RD was denied access to hike in supplies, what's it gonna be like to run in deep snow?

May be he'll re-route the course?

Anyway, have fun, good luck and be careful not to biff! :)

They usually have ropes for descending the steeper parts on the back side of the course. That will help. But it won't help the Crags, which for most are the scariest part of the race. I really wish I could be out there running with you guys.

The Crags are fine in that they are melted out. The RD said he would need about 3 miles worth of rope for the decent from Smugglers gap to the creek. Jun, I wish you were running and making another great video of the race.

I need a GoPro, for reelz.

For the race, here's what you do; get one of those little roll-up sleds, but it down to just big enough to fit your butt on, but leave the handle. Carry it with you and slide down that snow. You'll win, for sure.

I like the sled idea, but I'd also need a breaking device. I've thought about bringing an old cut down ski pole.

Save your pennies and get yourself a GoPro!
