Unlike previous Ogden races, I did not finish in 3:18, but only just barely- 3:17:13. Ave pace 7:32.

I did not do much training specifically for this race, since it came 2 months after the Buffalo Run 50k, a slower trail run.  Between the two I recovered, then added speed and tempo runs, then tapered.  I did one crummy 18 miler and a bunch of decent 16 milers.

I didn't have much of a race plan but sort of thought I might shoot for 7:00-7:15 pace for the first 8 downhill miles, then 7:15-7:30 for the rollers through the half, then pick it back up after the uphill.  The first 8 went swell. Somewhere near the 1/2 my quads started to hurt.  I was thinking, "this is way too early for this much pain, I'm going to die..."  Well I couldn't pick the pace back up but I didn't die either.

*pee stop.   2007 was a goal race.  2008 I paced people for the first 18.

So I started and ended at a faster pace than in the past but my finish time was almost the same.  I just had no speed coming down from the dam.   My heart rate was slower.  Is this just old age?  I think the early quad pain tells me I need to do more downhill training, especially for St. G??

I stuck around at the finish for over an hour, but didn't see anyone other than Kathy.  Why?

Nice running Mark. Any improvement is good I say, regardless of how much. Impressive time since in wasn't a big goal race for you. Way to go!

Interesting comparison of the 3 times you have run it. Which strategy do you think was the best? Great race considering you didn't seem like you were that into it for the last week.

Great race Fly. If you were able to finish faster, you probably could have pushed a little harder in the middle, but I'd much rather have a little extra left at the end than to crash at mile 20. I think you ran a smart race. Yes, I think the lower HR is probably age related.

Well done man!!! And yes, that was Mrs Don Gardinero at the fires.

Nice job Fly. Its very impressive the way you super fit guys can crank out these great race times. 3:17 doesn't sound very "old age" to me.

Holy cow! I think you are the one who successfully master the Ogden beast! That is very impressive time! The two previous Ogden is so dang close! I like how you compare the three. Well, for "old age" you finished stronger and faster.

Sorry I didn't see you at the finish! It was nice hanging with you at the smokey firepit though! You're such a skinny stealth *flyer* that I would never be able to find you!

EXCELLENT race! GOOD JOB, Mark!!!!

Funny thing:

Sitting here waiting for class to start and this thought pops into my head:

"I don't think I posted on Fly's race report!!!!!"

How in the world? I remember reading it ...

Anyway ... CONGRATS, my friend!!! :) :) :)

When are we going to hit the trails? Weather is looking wonderful again!!!! :) :) :)

Nice Job, you looked so good at the finish! I really think it was the shirt this year that made the difference. I got to find me a Hawaiian shirt!

Mark, I'm late in wishing you congrats on your race and amazement at your uber consistency.
