MLK day is Monday and that is my 10 year running anniversary. I will make that the start of making running a priority again. I'd say it's been a nice vacation but I've been working my arse off..... just not running.

HI!!! :) :) :)

I didn't know that you had any arse left to work off???? ;-)

I'm working on my list of reason why my little family should move to San Diego or somewhere close to. :) :) :)

So what did you do to celebrate you 10 year running anniversary? I hope you got in at least a little run. Happy Anniversary!

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Jan 22, 2014 at 13:34:03 from 168.180.63.83

Rhett, I sneaked in a few miles. That's my short term goal, sneak in a few miles 6 days a week. On the 7th day I ski with my kids.

Teena, You work on your list and I'll keep working on mine. :)

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Jan 28, 2014 at 15:42:15 from 168.180.63.83

I think I will run the BoSho Marathon in April (a free trail marathon near my house). I also see that Ogden is not sold out but I'm still on the fence for that. We will be in Peru for most of June, which will mean a shorter training schedule if I get into St. G.

Dang colds! I've had four of them this winter. I saw my doctor the other day and they did some blood work. They called me today and told me my vitamin D is waayyy low. So now I need to take that along with everything else. Hopefully it'll help.

Nice run while not feeling well.

From fly on the Wall on Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 09:23:33 from 174.27.227.202

I prefer warm rain or cold snow.

Is your area in drought? Any monsoon moisture last summer?

From Rhett on Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 10:43:28 from 24.121.0.8

I live in the middle of the desert so we have been in a drought for a couple thousand years. :) We usually get a couple inches a year, but most of that usually comes in the winter (we've got nothing this year) and some during monsoon season. Usually monsoon season just makes it humid and makes you think it is going to rain without actually raining.

From fly on the Wall on Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 16:19:15 from 174.27.237.117

Drought would be significantly less than average, regardless of what average is. I guess you don't get the monsoon rain that they do further south like in Tucson where it rains more in the summer than winter.

From Rhett on Mon, Feb 17, 2014 at 11:10:01 from 24.121.26.213

I know Fly. I'm just goofing. Tuscon does get a lot more rain than we do over on the West side of the state.

From Rhett on Mon, Mar 24, 2014 at 18:02:22 from 24.121.0.8

Nice tempo-ish run. Does that mean there was no watch, just running by effort?

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Mar 25, 2014 at 10:04:14 from 168.180.63.241

I wear my watch but am not running by it. I've been running with a guy that works in my building. He always wants to run at a faster pace than I normally would. So, I have been running tempo runs with him on Mondays and intervals on Wednesdays. On Mondays he seems to push the pace for the first few miles but by mile 3 I'm starting to get in cruise mode, by mile 5 I'm looking over my shoulder to make sure I don't drop him. By the end I'm feeling great but he looks pretty worked and has stopped running a few times before we've made it back. We did a 10 miler up and down a canyon and after stopping a few times I eventually finished solo.

I had been trying to keep us at a slower pace but he said his knee would hurt at slower paces. Now I'm just going with the flow and taking advantage of the good workouts.

From Rhett on Tue, Mar 25, 2014 at 10:34:13 from 24.121.0.8

Sounds like you've got his number. Nice way to take advantage of the pace and make it a tempo run.

Hi Smooth,

I was traveling in Peru with my family for June and didn't run. Then I started building my mileage in July but crashed my bike and got a concussion. So I couldn't run for a few weeks. Now it is August and I'm just starting to build base miles. Maybe I'll try the Goblin Valley Marathon or maybe I'll sign up for Ogden or ???????

Sounds like a fun (the Peru vacation) and crazy (the concussion, yikes) summer! Glad you're back on the saddle.

I vote for Goblin Valley! It's so beautiful. You can take your whole family there for a camping trip!

It's September!

How are you?

I think my head is all better. I've even regained some memories of the morning of the day of my concussion.

I'm back up to 50+ miles a week, though taking an ez week now.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on Goblin Valley M but getting closer to doing so.

I've been tracking my mileage with Garmin and haven't been motivated to post here.

Well, for what it's worth, I miss your posts!!!

When is Goblin Valley, anyhow? Isn't it right after SGM?

I'd love to hear your recovered memories of that day!

Hmmm..... maybe?

I'm still running, just not as much. I was pondering Ogden for the spring. Haven't committed in part because I'm not sure how to fit in winter long runs now that I'm trying to keep up with my kids while skiing.

Also, I ran Ogden last spring and about froze. I was OK during the race but as soon as I crossed the finish line I started going hypothermic. I was shivering and shaking uncontrollably, had a serious loss of dexterity, but was still mostly coherent when I made it to my car and cranked the heat.

Hey that sounds a bit like a race report!

Hey, you are there!!!! Woot woot!!!! Ry and I have been wondering how you are doing! Any time we are out exploring amongst the red rocks and see something cool we both say, "I bet Fly would love this! " Or, "I bet Fly could tell us why that is like that.", etc.

So, I have the solution for your hypothermia in May! Shelbey (my physical therapy assistant) is going to run her first marathon, and try to BQ simultaneously, at the Charleston Revel marathon on May 7th. I am going to run it as well, and depending on how Boston goes, try to help her qualify. It looks CRAZY fast! The website states it is roughly 9-11 minutes faster than SGM. AND . . . It is in Vegas!! So no hypothermia in May!!!!

What do you say? :-)
